Olympism and Olympic Ideals

Olympism is a philosophy of life, exalting and combining in a balanced whole the qualities of body, will and mind. Blending sport with culture and education, Olympism seeks to create a way of life based on the joy found in effort, the educational value of good example and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles. The goal of Olympism is to place sport at the service of the harmonious development of man, with a view to promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity.” (Olympic Charter 2004, Fundamental Principles, paragraph 1, 2)

THREE CORE VALUES OF THE OLYMPIC MOVEMENT
Recently, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has defined three core values, that are “the heart and soul of the Olympic Movement…They are meant to inspire us an individual and at the organizational level.”

ExcelllenceExcellence: This value stands for giving one’s best, on the field of play or in the professional arena. It is not only about winning, but also about participating, making progress against personal goals, striving to be and to do our best in our daily lives and benefiting from the healthy combination of a strong body, mind and will.

FriendshipFriendship: This value encourages us to consider sport as a tool for mutual understanding among individuals and people from all over the world. The Olympic Games inspire humanity to overcome political, economic, gender, racial or religious differences and forge friendships in spite of those differences.

RespectRespect: This value incorporates respect for oneself, one’s body, for others, for the rules and regulations, for sport and the environment. Related to sport, respect stands for fair play and for the fight against doping and any other unethical behavior.

Team USA

TeaminTrainingTtrainingeam USA is in full training to attend this year’s Olympic games.  The competition from other countries is stiff so they have been training hard throughout the year to prepare for the all mental and physical activities that will take place at this year’s party.

Team USA Coaches John and Janae Bower are excited about the potential for this year’s competition.  “It’s going to be a tight race in many of the competitions, but we believe Team USA will pull away with the most gold medals.”

We have many good couples competiting in a variety of games this year, here are a few athletes to watch out for.

Athlete Spotlight

Paul & Viv Pasche

Paul & Viv Pasche "The Veterns"

Paul & Viv Pasche are the vetern athletes on our team.    They have outlasted all the other competitiors and have been training with us since we formed Team Bower USA 9 years ago.  We can always count on Paul & Viv to show up for all the trainings and yearly Valentine’s  competitions.  They have been game for whatever sport we assign them to.   With Paul’s drive to compete and Viv’s positive attitude, they make a great team!

Shelley & Les Mattefy

Shelley & Les Mattefy "The Presidential Couple"

Shelley & Les Mateffy were crowned with the title of “The Bower’s Presidential Couple” from last year’s competition.  They campaigned against all the other couples and were voted as THE presidential couple with their Shot of Love campaign.   They come to us with many skills one being their desire to outplay the competition.  We appreciate their willingness to play hard in all they do!

Julie & Justin Wylie

Julie & Justin Wylie "The Energizers"

Team Julie & Justin Wylie bring amazing energy to the team.  With their laughs, creative game play and high energy they are unstoppable.  They are always willing to go the extra mile to help support the team and hosts.  Watch out for them with this year’s competition as they channel their energy in hopes of getting a gold!

Jay & Eileen Nelson

Jay & Eileen Nelson "The Jokesters"

Jay & Eileen Nelson we refer to as Team Jokesters.  They bring fun and laughter to the team.   This Nelson duo has a great strategy to outwit their competitiors.  Just when you think that you can’t take them seriously, they’ll surprise you with their serious game play.  Watch out athletes because you never know what game face they’ll be putting on!

Greg & Sherri Rombach "The Newbies"

Greg & Sherri Rombach "The Newbies"

Team Greg & Sherri Rombach are new to the competitions with last year being their first year to compete.  As amateurs in the game last year, we were surprised how well they competed.  With Greg’s great height advantage and Sherri’s smarts this team has got it together. They might be new to our team, but they’ve got the right experience needed to emerge as winners for us!
